Successful first SEAT Toledo test
for Pickford

James Pickford enjoyed his first taste of Toledo Cupra power at Pembrey this week, when the new SEAT Sport UK team signing drove the car in which he will contest this year’s British Touring Car Championship in for the first time.

With Jason Plato on hand to bed the cars in and lend technical advice, his BTCC team-mate concentrated on getting miles under his belt at a cold and slippery Welsh Motorsports Centre in west Wales. With exclusive use of the 1.456 mile track, Pickford, the 2004 SEAT Cupra Champion completed around 80 trouble-free laps each.

Pickford said: “The Toledo Cupra is exactly what I expected it would be like – very impressive. It just feels right and already I feel very comfortable driving it. It’s a natural progression coming from a Leon Cupra R in the SEAT Cupra Championship into a Toledo Cupra in the British Touring Car Championship, and that really helped me quickly get used to the Toledo. The first test was just a case of getting some miles under my belt and experimenting with things like braking points. I love it – it’s just great fun to drive!”

Plato said: “It was a good start to the season to see the new SEAT Sport UK team gel together so well. Personally I only did a couple of laps in each car, and I didn’t go out to see what the new Dunlop slick tyres are like because the track temperature was too cold and it remained damp and slippery all day.”
